Requesting Updates to Referrals and Authorizations from Military Hospitals and Clinics

As a provider who may work with TRICARE beneficiaries, Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) would like to remind you about how to request changes to existing authorizations or referrals for patients referred by military hospitals and clinics. We’ve recently seen an increase in providers requesting changes through military hospital or clinic staff rather than contacting HNFS. You can help avoid access-to-care delays by following these guidelines. 

Go to tricare-west.com or contact HNFS
Certain changes to authorizations or referrals may be requested online using the Outpatient Authorization Change Request Form or you may contact HNFS’ customer service line. Please do not contact the military hospital or clinic to have an existing referral or authorization updated. 

What can be changed
You can request changes to the servicing provider, priority level, CPT®/HCPCS®/diagnosis codes (some exceptions apply), or the procedure/service dates. We recommend you request changes within 30 days of an approval to help expedite care.

What cannot be changed
If you need to add services/codes or if the services were already rendered, please submit a new request rather than submitting a change request form.
